This is a fantastic time to visit Glacier National Park as the crowds of summer have long gone away and we will pretty much have the park to ourselves. From our base in East Glacier we will explore along the park’s eastern flank where stands of quaking aspen trees turn golden and accent the snow capped mountains and verdant valleys. Quaint little beaver ponds often reflect the colors and mountain peaks near Marias Pass and we will have many chances to photograph the park’s famed wildlife.
Bring your passports as we will head up to the Canadian border and wonderful Waterton Lakes National Park for two days to wind up this class. There are hundreds of elk that gather in the meadows each evening and remain until first light the next morning. The sound of bull elk bugling in fall is a sound that you will never forget. In addition, there are beautiful landscapes accented by stands of golden aspen everywhere you look in this amazing park.
EQUIPMENT SUGGESTIONS: A sturdy tripod is a necessity for good landscapes. Participants should have a working knowledge of their equipment (know which button does what!) before the workshop. I suggest a SLR camera with a wide-angle lens, (17-35mm range) and a zoom or fixed lens, like a 70-200 or 300mm. We have also had some point and shoot shooters attend so don’t feel you have to buy that latest and greatest. There’s a lot to learn just by seeing.
