Location:

We will spend the first two days based in Seattle where I have a wealth of experience shooting at many fantastic locations. In the evenings, we will capture the spectacular night-time city skylines. In the mornings we will explore downtown Seattle with Pike’s Market and the Space Needle as the centerpieces for our shoots. If we are blessed with clear conditions, the view from Kerry Park with the Space Needle and Mount Rainier is not only dramatic but very inspiring. There is also a host of other great spots like Gas Works Park and the Washington Park Arboretum where spring trees and flowers will be blooming.

Situated on the Olympic Peninsula, Olympic National Park offers tremendous diversity for photographers. At nearly one million acres, the park encompasses three major ecosystems: rugged coastal beaches, temperate rainforest, and beautiful glacier-capped peaks create breathtaking scenery and amazing photo opportunities. We will spend time photographing the lush Sol Duc Valley with it’s beautiful waterfall, explore the Hoh Rainforest where we will have the opportunity to photograph a truly unique ecosystem within the old growth forests. Landscapes of moss and ferns, big leaf maples and small plant life for macro opportunities await.

The second part of our workshop will also take us to the coastal areas of the park including Ruby Beach, Second Beach, Rialto Beach and Cape Flattery. Here we will photograph sunrises and sunsets, ocean sea stacks, and tide pools along the wild Pacific Ocean.

This workshop represents a great opportunity to sharpen your skills with many different facets of photography. Working on city shots using ambient light can be magical. Then we get the best of nature photography with stunning rainforest environments and wild coastlines. You will come back with great images and an improved skill set.

EQUIPMENT SUGGESTIONS: A sturdy tripod is a necessity for good landscapes. Participants should have a working knowledge of their equipment (know which button does what!) before the workshop. I suggest a SLR camera with a wide-angle lens, (17-35mm range) and a zoom or fixed lens, like a 70-200 or 300mm. We have also had some point and shoot shooters so don’t feel you have buy that latest and greatest. There’s a lot to learn just by seeing.
