Portugal Photo Workshop Tour

Dates: October 15-25, 2024

Price: $5800.00 single/ couple $10,000.00 (a 3% surcharge will be added on payments made through PayPal)  Workshop price includes guide, instruction, transportation with a local guide and 10 nights of lodging, most dinners, and all breakfast. Limited to 7 students. 

Not included: Transportation from the Lisbon airport, alcohol, and gratuities.

Cancellation Policy: If you cancel and the workshop is otherwise filled, we will refund you the full amount you have paid towards the tuition, minus a $150 service charge. If you cancel and the workshop does not fill, then you will be refunded according to the following schedule, based on the full fee of the Workshop:

• Greater than 90 days from the start date of the Workshop: full refund minus $150 fee.
• Less than 90 days: no refund
• Refunds will be paid by the same method that the original payment was made.

Please purchase “Travel Insurance” at time of registration. Required on any international trip. AAA or Allianz offer policies

Thursday, October 17- AM Lisbon, Shuttle bus pickup / PM- Colares,  Cape Roca lighthouse Arribis Sintra Hotel 

Friday, October 18- AM Surfing, beach,  PM- north of Colares beaches, Santa Cruz Beach (1hr drive). Arribis Hotel

Saturday, October 19- AM- surf, shuttle to Aviero, gondola boats, old town,  Hotel Imperial

Sunday, October 20- AM- Costa Nova, beach, colorful houses , shuttle to Peniche, cliffs, lighthouse, MH Peniche Hotel

Monday, October 21-  AM- Obidos Castle, shuttle to Lagos/ PM-cliffs, lighthouse,  Lagos Avienda Hotel

Tuesday, October 22-  AM- Old Town Lagos / PM- Sagres  Cabo de Sao Vincente Lighthouse, Lagos Avienda Hotel

Location; Portugal Photography Workshop Tour

I’ve made several scouting trips to Portugal. I love this country with its friendly inhabitants and amazing coastal scenery. There is also so much history, architecture, and culture. Our cameras will be busy! We’ve put together a fantastic itinerary that hugs the Atlantic Coastline. We begin exploring in the Old Town district of Lisbon, then head just a short drive to Colares, where we have a very photogenic lighthouse and many pullovers along the roadside to capture stunning sunsets over the Atlantic Ocean. I’ve booked the top floor of our seashore hotel so we can shoot surfing action right from our balcony. Great seafood all along the trip! We’ll go north to visit historic Obidos Castle, the famed gondola boats in Aviero and dramatic seascapes at the cooldown of Peniche. 

Then we head south to the Algarve Region. Our first stop is the charming town of Lagos. Very cool cliffs, more lighthouses and the Portuguese tile in the Old Town district will keep us busy. Our hotel also offers a Michelin- rated restaurant! Next, we will travel further west to the southern city of Faro for an opportunity for some first-class birding at Rio Formosa National Park wetlands. We will charter a boat to photograph pink flamingos and numerous other shorebirds. 

Finally, we head back for one more night in Lisbon, where we will spend our final dinner together and top of the shooting with the famous Vasco da Gama Bridge at twilight.

EQUIPMENT SUGGESTIONS for Portugal Photography Workshop Tour: A sturdy tripod is a necessity for good landscapes. Participants should have a working knowledge of their equipment (know which button does what!) before the workshop. I suggest a SLR camera with a wide-angle lens (17-35mm range) and  a telephoto lens up in the  300-500mm range
